Leh 12 :- In a moment of immense pride for Ladakh, three outstanding ice speed skaters from the region have been selected to represent India in the prestigious Asia Cup Trophy. Skarma Tsultim, Insha Fatima, and Padma Angmo, all gold medallists at the Khelo India National Winter Games (KIWG) 2024, will compete in the tournament under the leadership of their coach, Mohd Abbass Nordakh, who has been appointed as the head coach of Team India.
Coach Nordakh, a seasoned ice speed skating coach from Ladakh, will lead a team of 22 top Indian ice speed skaters, including his three talented students. The team is set to embark on a 12-day training camp in Korea, beginning on August 8th and concluding on August 20th, before heading to Jakarta, Indonesia, for the Asia Cup Trophy, scheduled to take place on August 22-23, 2024.
The President of the Ice Skating Association of India (ISAI), Mr. Amitabh Sharma, who also serves as an Executive Member of the Indian Olympic Association, highlighted the significance of this opportunity. “The training camp in Korea will provide our athletes with invaluable international exposure, enhancing their chances of winning medals at the Asia Cup Trophy,” he stated. During the camp, the Indian team will receive intensive training from Coach Nordakh and a Korean coach, preparing them to compete against some of the best ice speed skaters in Asia.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for Coach Nordakh and his students, showcasing the growing talent and potential of ice speed skaters from Ladakh. Their participation in such a prestigious international competition underscores the dedication and hard work that has brought them to this stage.
