Srinagar, Aug 12: In a press conference held at SKICC on the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced that the J&K administration has successfully cleared a substantial power debt of Rs 28,000 crore. Despite this significant financial obligation, LG Sinha assured that residents of the Union Territory continue to benefit from some of the lowest power rates in the country, with no increase in tariffs over the past three years.
Sinha emphasized the importance of residents contributing their share for the power they consume to maintain a reliable 24×7 electricity supply. He noted that the introduction of metering has effectively curbed power theft.
Discussing the recently passed budget for J&K, which received an allocation of Rs 1,18,390 crore as presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23, Sinha highlighted the Centre’s commitment to the region’s development. He expressed optimism about the budget’s potential to drive progress across various sectors, including agriculture, horticulture, power, and infrastructure.
Furthermore, Sinha reported that the administration has revitalized J&K Bank, transforming it from a heavily indebted entity into a profitable financial institution.
The Lieutenant Governor’s remarks underscore the administration’s ongoing efforts to enhance public services and infrastructure while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
