Kargil 12 :- Administrative Secretary, Youth Service & Sports/ Information/ Tourism & Culture and Power Development, UT Ladakh, Vikram Singh Malik is on a two-day official tour of Zanskar Sub-Division. He reached Padum on August 10, 2024 as part of the official tour and was received by In-charge SDM, Mohd.Hassan at Pidmo village on behalf of the administration. The villagers and nuns of Zangla Nunnery also welcomed the Secretary with traditional music. A cultural programme was also presented by villagers of Zangla.
En-route to Padum, a public delegation met the Secretary and submitted a memorandum of demands for early redressal. After arriving at Tourist Reception Centre, Padum, the Secretary took stock of the position of Power Grid Stations and installation of towers.
Later, the Secretary visited Sani Monastery and Shagar village to address the issue of grid towers installed on cultivated lands. The villagers of Shagar expressed their concerns about the towers being placed on their agricultural land and requested that they be relocated to non-cultivated areas.
The Secretary directed the RECPDCL authorities to remove the towers installed on cultivated lands and to erect them at alternative sites identified by the villagers. The Secretary also visited Karsha Monastery to assess the feasibility of the land proposed for Juniper Park.
Subsequently, the Secretary chaired a meeting of officers of the Sub-Division to finalize the venue and date of Zanskar Festival which is expected to be held in September.
On Sunday (August 11), the Secretary visited Sani Naro Photang and the lake. He also convened a meeting with the RECPDCL and contractors of various companies. They were directed to erect the power grid towers from Drass to Padum. He also reviewed the progress of installation and foundations of towers. He urged the contractors to ensure completion of work of tower installations within this working season.
Administrative Secretary Malik also inspected the Hydro Power Project at Raru Lungnak which is functional and is supplying power to Padum town and the surrounding areas.
The Secretary and his entourage later proceeded towards Serchu through Singkula. During the tour Chief Engineer, PDD, UT Ladakh; Deputy Secretary,LAACL, Kargil; Project Director, KREDA and Executive Engineer, PDD accompanied the Secretary during the tour.
