Leh : On the occasion Dr. Pawan Kotwal inaugurated the newly constructed Multipurpose Hall, CCTV control Room and Video Conference Room.
The infrastructure was constructed under Modernization of Prisons Project scheme of MHA in a record time of 05 months.
The Multipurpose Hall shall serve as recreational, Yoga/Meditation, educational, vocational, motivational talks etc for Prison staff as well as inmates. The chief guest also took round of the Jail premises including Barracks of inmates, Library, Mini Hospital, Community kitchen of Prisoners. Later Dr. Pawan Kotwal interacted with the existing inmates (Prisoners) and listened to their issues.
Dr. Pawan Kotwal while speaking on the occasion emphasized dignity of prisoners whilst under custody and the need of ensuring all the facilities and amenities as warranted under rules and policy. He appreciated the Prison Department UT Ladakh Headed by ADGP Dr. SD Singh Jamwal and team for taking initiatives in the field of correctional and infrastructural upgradation in pursuit of creating a State level Jail. The chief guest wished the jail staff and the security personnel of CRPF in their duties.
Sh. Tundup Dorjay I/C Superintendent Jail gave a brief presentation on the journey of District Jail Leh after formation of new UT Ladakh and intimated that on account of liberal budgetary provision, a major overhaul of infrastructural and correctional measures facilities effected in the last 04 years.
