Leh :- The Union Territory of Ladakh has announced a significant administrative reshuffle within the Department of Animal, Sheep Husbandry, and Fisheries. This move is aimed at enhancing leadership and operational continuity in key departments.

In an official notification issued by the Office of the Secretary, Agriculture, Sheep Husbandry, and Fisheries (ASH&F), two crucial appointments were confirmed today. Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, who has been serving as the In-Charge Joint Director of Sheep Husbandry, has been elevated to the position of Director of Sheep Husbandry. This change, effective immediately, is part of Order No. 32-Com. Secv/ASH&F/UTL of 2024, and seeks to provide a seamless transition and robust leadership for the Sheep Husbandry sector.

In a related update, following the retirement of Dr. Mohd Iqbal, the former Director of Animal/Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Dr. Mohd Ismail has been appointed as the Acting Director of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries. Dr. Ismail, previously the In-Charge Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, will now oversee both the Animal Husbandry and Fisheries departments in his new role. This interim appointment was made under Order No. 31-Com. Secy/ASH&F/UTL of 2024, effective immediately, ensuring that the department’s operations continue smoothly during this transitional period.

Dr. Franklin Laltinkhuma, IAS, Secretary of the ASH&F Department, confirmed these appointments in a notification issued under the authority of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. The recent appointments are expected to bring fresh perspectives and continued leadership to the departments, further strengthening their ability to meet the needs of Ladakh’s agricultural and animal husbandry sectors.
