Jammu, Aug 05: In a significant move to bolster security measures in the region, the Jammu Police have registered twelve cases against house and landowners in the subdivision East of the South zone, Jammu, for failing to provide tenant details to the local police. This stringent action follows the emergence of several instances where anti-national elements were found residing in residential areas under the guise of tenants and domestic help.
An official spokesperson confirmed that the verification process was initiated under the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu. The exercise, spearheaded by the Superintendent of Police (SP) South and led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) East, aims to identify all outsiders staying as tenants and domestic helps without the knowledge and verification of the concerned police stations.
“During the drive, ten cases were registered at Police Station Bahu Fort, and two cases at Police Station Channi Himmat under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS),” the spokesperson stated. These actions underscore the importance of adhering to the established legal frameworks for tenant verification, which is crucial for maintaining security in the region.
The crackdown is a direct response to the orders previously issued by the District Magistrate of Jammu, mandating property owners to complete police verification for their tenants within the jurisdiction of District Jammu under Section 163 of the BNSS. This measure is intended to enhance the security apparatus and ensure a systematic check on the movement and stay of outsiders in the district.
The District Magistrate’s Order is clear in its mandate: property owners must provide necessary information about tenants and outsiders residing across the district to the District Police Jammu. Failure to comply with this order has resulted in the current registration of twelve First Information Reports (FIRs) against the non-compliant owners.
In light of the prevailing security scenario, the Jammu Police have made a fervent appeal to all citizens to provide complete details of their tenants and domestic helpers to the nearest police station and ensure timely police verification. This step is seen as essential for fostering a safe and responsible society.
The SSP Jammu emphasized the importance of community cooperation in these efforts, stating, “Ensuring tenant verification is not just a legal obligation but a civic duty that helps maintain the security and harmony of our community. We urge all property owners to comply with these regulations to prevent any potential threats to our safety.”
As the verification process continues, the Jammu Police remain vigilant and committed to identifying and mitigating any security risks posed by unverified tenants and domestic helpers. The community’s role in this process is crucial, and adherence to the District Magistrate’s orders will significantly contribute to the overall security framework of the region.
