Leh 03 :- The Merchant Association in Leh has voiced strong objections to the sale of ready-made garments at the Regional Saras Mela, regardless of whether it is part of a government scheme. The association contends that these mass-produced garments are detrimental to local artisans and craftspeople, whose handmade products are central to the fair’s cultural and economic value. They emphasize that allowing ready-made garments undermines the event’s purpose of promoting indigenous craftsmanship and threatens the livelihoods of local vendors.
In response to the lack of action on this issue, the association has announced plans to enforce a ten-day market closure. This move aims to draw attention to their concerns and pressure the organizers to reconsider the inclusion of ready-made garments, thereby preserving the integrity and primary goal of the Saras Mela.
