Leh, July 23:Hon’ble Executive Councillor for Animal and Sheep Husbandry,LAHDC, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, Leh, chaired a meeting at the HEC Chamber, Council Secretariat, LAHDC, Leh, focused on advancing the pashmina sector and reviewing the progress of the Pashmina Dehairing Plant.
During the meeting, there was a review of the successful initiative from last year under the special development package, which subsidized approximately 1000 kid pens for the Changthang region. Feedback was discussed, and modifications were proposed to further improve the initiative. Stakeholders also explored ways to enhance the program to maximize its positive impact on the local economy.
Another pivotal point of discussion was the GI tag obtained for Pashmina, emphasizing the importance of value addition strategies to increase its market appeal and profitability.
Following the meeting, the team visited the Pashmina Dehairing Plant at Old Changthang Pashmina Cooperative Marketing Society, Skalzangling. This plant, part of the Prime Minister Development Package (PDP), is nearing completion. The delegation interacted with contractors and technical experts overseeing the project. Plans were discussed to establish a commission to manage and optimize operations at the plant for maximum efficiency and output.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to further strengthen the pashmina industry through strategic initiatives and effective utilization of resources.
