New Delhi 16 :- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the high-level UN General Assembly session September 26, according to a provisional list of speakers issued by the UN.
The 79th session of the UN General Assembly is set to take place from September 24-30, with the general debate marking a significant event during this period.
The UN released a provisional list of speakers indicating that India’s “Head of Government” is scheduled for an afternoon address on September 26.
This list remains subject to change as the UN updates attendance, schedules, and speaking slots in the weeks leading up to the session.
Traditionally, Brazil will open the general debate as first speaker at high-level session on September 24, followed by the United States. US President Joe Biden is slated to deliver his final address to global leaders from the UN podium before the country’s presidential election in November.
Prime Minister Modi, who recently began his historic third term, last addressed the UNGA in September 2021. His upcoming address will follow his visit to the UN headquarters in June of the previous year, where he led the Yoga Day commemoration before proceeding to Washington, DC for a State Visit hosted by President Biden.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will present his report before the General Debate starts, followed by an address by the President of the 79th session of the General Assembly. Guterres is also organizing the Summit of the Future at UN Headquarters. This summit includes action days scheduled for September 20-21 and a Summit on September 22-23.
World leaders will gather at the United Nations to adopt the Pact for the Future, which incorporates a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations as annexes.
“The Summit is a high-level event, bringing world leaders together to forge a new international consensus on how we deliver a better present and safeguard the future,” stated the UN.
“Effective global cooperation is increasingly critical to our survival but difficult to achieve in an atmosphere of mistrust, using outdated structures that no longer reflect today’s political and economic realities,” the UN added.
As the world prepares for the high-level week, the focus will be on fostering effective global cooperation and updating international structures to align with present-day realities. The General Debate and subsequent events are positioned as key platforms for driving these discussions.
