Leh, July 10: The District Social Welfare Office in Leh recently conducted a comprehensive one-day seminar-cum-training session aimed at empowering newly recruited staff of the District De-addiction Centre. The initiative, held to bolster efforts against drug addiction in the region, gathered key stakeholders and experts to share insights and strategies.
Nilza Angmo, District Social Officer, emphasized the importance of contextual understanding in tackling addiction issues specific to Leh. Pallavi Singh, Director of the Jammu & Kashmir State Level Coordinating Agency (SLCA), Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (SPYM), provided an overview of the centre’s role and responsibilities, underscoring its pivotal function in rehabilitation efforts.
Stanzin Legsmon from the Narcotics Wing of Ladakh Police addressed the legal aspects surrounding drug abuse, outlining crucial legal frameworks and enforcement measures. Urgain Angmo, a Counsellor at SNM Hospital, contributed insights into the current addiction landscape in Ladakh, shedding light on prevalent challenges and trends.
The seminar also saw active participation from community leaders, including the President of the Hotel Association and the Vice President of the Merchant Association. They engaged with the staff on preventive strategies, community involvement, and factors contributing to relapse, emphasizing the collaborative approach needed to combat drug addiction effectively.
The event aimed not only to enhance the competence of the newly recruited staff but also to foster stronger collaboration with stakeholders across various sectors. Such initiatives are crucial in addressing the complex issue of drug addiction in Ladakh, ensuring a concerted effort towards a healthier community.
The District Social Welfare Office expressed its commitment to continuing such training programs to further strengthen the capabilities of frontline workers and to create a more supportive environment for individuals battling addiction in the region.
