Leh, July 08: Sikyong Penpa Tsering, the incumbent Kalon (Minister) of the Department of Home (Central Tibetan Administration), today arrived in Ladakh to commence the second leg of his official tour to Tibetan settlements across India. This visit marks a significant step in the Sikyong’s ongoing efforts to engage with the Tibetan community and oversee key initiatives.
Upon arrival, Sikyong was given a warm and ceremonious welcome by several distinguished figures including Chief Representative Officer Dhondup Tashi, Local Tibetan Justice Commissioner Pema Sangpo, and President of the Local Tibetan Assembly Dhondup Tsering. The reception also saw participation from representatives of monasteries, local Tibetan Men-tsee-khang, the Tibetan Primary Health Care Centre, Tibetan schools, and various other Tibetan civil societies. Joint Secretary Tashi Dickey from the Department of Home and a representative from the SARD were also present as part of the inspection team.
Following the reception, Sikyong Penpa Tsering embarked on a comprehensive inspection tour of several key Tibetan institutions in Choglamsar. His first-day itinerary included visits to the Chief Representative Office, the Local Tibetan Justice Commission Office, the Tibetan Primary Health Care Centre, the office of the Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement, the Choglamsar-based Drophen Men-tsee-khang, the Local Tibetan Assembly’s project site, and the office of the Regional Tibetan Co-operative along with its cable office and shop.
During these visits, Sikyong Penpa Tsering engaged with the heads and staff of these offices, addressing their concerns and gathering insights into the well-being of the Tibetan community in the region. His interactions aimed to assess ongoing projects and discuss strategies for furthering community welfare.
Chief Representative Officer Dhondup Tashi highlighted that Sikyong’s tour will also include visits to Sonamling and all Jangthang settlements. These visits are designed to address public issues and inspect ongoing projects in these regions. Additionally, the program will feature meetings with prominent Ladakh leaders and Union Territory officials, focusing on collaborative efforts for regional development and community support.
