Leh, July 08: Following a hiatus during the recent general elections, the Leh Apex Body (LAB) reconvened today for a crucial meeting chaired by Co-Chairman Chering Dorjey Lakrook. The session marked a pivotal moment as LAB members, representing a diverse cross-section of Ladakh’s communities, gathered to strategize on advancing their four-point demands presented to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India.

The LAB reaffirmed their commitment to resume activities post-elections, highlighting the urgency of their agenda. Key stakeholders present included a diverse group of leaders and representatives, including the President of the Ladakh Buddhist Association, the General Secretary of the Ladakh Gonpa Association, the President of Anjuman Imamia Leh, the Vice President of Anjuman Moin-Ul-Islam, President Sofia Nurbakshia, Women Representative of LAB, the President of Nambardar Association Leh, the President of the New Resident Nambardar Association, representatives from the Congress and AAP political parties, and the President of the Student Union Leh.

Central to the meeting was the formulation of a proactive plan to engage with the MHA, underscoring the importance of securing a favorable response to Ladakh’s demands. A significant decision emerged to organize a joint meeting with the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), set to include LAB Chairman Thupstan Chhewang. This collaborative effort aims to strengthen dialogue channels and amplify the region’s collective voice at the national level.

Addressing immediate concerns, LAB emphasized the pressing need to restart recruitment processes within the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh. This initiative seeks to alleviate unemployment challenges among local youth, a critical priority for the community’s socioeconomic development.

Furthermore, LAB voiced strong endorsement for a proposal advocating a mandatory Ladakh Resident Certificate for contractors participating in tender processes, particularly for projects up to ₹5 crore under District and UT Capex. Originating from Honourable Councillor of Phyang Constituency during the 6th Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh General Council, this measure aims to bolster local businesses, address unemployment, and foster self-employment opportunities within the region.
