Kargil, July 08: In response to the increasing incidents of feral dog bites that have raised serious concerns about public safety and health, the District Magistrate of Kargil has issued a series of stringent instructions aimed at improving the management and disposal of leftover food across the district.

The surge in feral dog attacks has been partly attributed to the improper disposal of food waste, which has become a significant public health issue. To address this problem, the District Magistrate has mandated that all hotels, homestays, guest houses, restaurants, and defense establishments in Kargil District strictly adhere to proper food waste management practices.

The District Magistrate has prohibited the throwing of leftover food onto roads and other public places. Establishments are required to follow prescribed procedures for the disposal of food waste to prevent attracting feral animals.

The District Magistrate has directed the Municipal Committee Kargil, Tourism Department, and Rural Development Department to conduct a mass awareness campaign. The aim is to educate stakeholders about the new guidelines and the importance of proper food waste management.

The SSP Kargil, SDMS, EO MC Kargil, and BDOS have been tasked with overseeing the implementation of these directives. They are also responsible for ensuring compliance and taking legal action against those who violate the regulations.

The decision comes after an increase in feral dog bites has been linked to food waste being left unattended. Improperly discarded food attracts feral dogs, which has led to a rise in aggressive encounters between dogs and residents.

To combat this issue, the District Magistrate’s office has outlined clear guidelines for food waste disposal. These include ensuring that all leftover food is disposed of in a manner that does not attract stray animals and following sanitation practices to prevent environmental and health hazards.

The Municipal Committee Kargil and other involved departments are expected to launch awareness programs that will inform the public and business owners about the new regulations. These programs will emphasize the importance of responsible food waste disposal and outline the penalties for non-compliance.

SSP Kargil and other enforcement authorities have been instructed to conduct regular inspections and ensure that all entities adhere to the new regulations. Violations of these directives will be met with legal repercussions as stipulated by existing laws.
