Kargil, July 05: In a stirring tribute to the valour of Kargil war heroes, the third phase of the SBI Kargil Tiger Hill Challenge was ceremoniously flagged off today at Drass War Memorial by State Bank of India’s Deputy Managing Director, Binod Kumar Mishra. The event, marking the 25th anniversary of India’s victory in the Kargil War, witnessed the participation of local citizens alongside soldiers from the Indian Army.
Mr. Binod Kumar Mishra expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Army for their unwavering dedication in safeguarding the nation, emphasizing their pivotal role in strengthening India’s security framework.
Major Surendra Poonia, VSM, founder of Fitistan-Ek Fit Bharat, lauded the initiative by State Bank of India and its team for supporting India’s largest tribute fitness challenge. He urged the youth of the nation to visit the sacred grounds of Drass and Kargil War Memorials, hallowed by the sacrifices of our brave soldiers defending the motherland.
The SBI Kargil Tiger Hill Challenge, a virtual fitness challenge spanning 85 days from May 3rd to Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26th, has garnered enthusiastic participation from over 21,000 Indian citizens. This initiative, endorsed by Kargil war hero and Paramveer Chakra recipient Captain Yogendra Yadav, aims to bridge the gap between civilians and the Armed Forces through fitness and remembrance.
Participants, registered through the Fitistan app, undertake a rigorous journey divided into four phases symbolizing different stages of the Kargil War:
Phase-1: Preparation for Kargil War (First 30 Days): Achieve 150,000 steps by June 1st.
Phase-2: March to Kargil: Continue with 7,500 steps daily, totaling 225,000 steps by July 1st.
Phase-3: Assault on Tiger Hill (July 2 to July 25): Maintain 10,000 steps daily, covering 240,000 steps in 24 days.
Phase-4: On Top of Tiger Hill on Kargil Vijay Diwas (July 26): Culminate with 15,000 steps in celebration of Kargil Victory.
Each participant will receive an E-Certificate signed by Captain Yogendra Yadav upon completion, symbolizing their tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the 527 soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War.
Everyone celebrates Kargil Victory with 15,000 steps. In 85 days, a minimum of 630,000 steps needs to be completed to finish the challenge. Paramveer Chakra winner of the Kargil War, Captain Yogendra Yadav, is the ambassador of the SBI Kargil Tiger Hill Challenge. A total of 21,000 Indians are participating from across the country.
