Kargil, July 05: In a significant move aimed at addressing longstanding grievances and advocating for development in Ladakh, the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), under the leadership of Co-Chairmen Qamar Ali Akhone and Haji Asgar All Karbalaie, has intensified its call on the Government of India to resume dialogue with the region’s leaders. This call comes amidst persistent challenges faced by Ladakh since the enactment of the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019.

The KDA has emphasized a comprehensive four-point agenda, previously submitted to the government through a high-power committee under the Ministry of Home Affairs. This agenda underscores critical issues affecting Ladakh, ranging from political autonomy to socio-economic development and cultural preservation.

Central to the KDA’s demands is the establishment of Ladakh as a full-fledged state, aimed at securing greater political and administrative autonomy for the region. Additionally, they advocate for constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, ensuring protection of cultural and land rights crucial to Ladakh’s identity.

Addressing the pressing issue of unemployment among Ladakhi youth, the KDA has proposed job reservations and the creation of a dedicated Public Service Commission for Ladakh. This initiative seeks to manage local recruitment and administrative functions, thereby fostering local employment opportunities and sustainable development.

Further underscoring the need for balanced political representation, the KDA has called for separate parliamentary constituencies for Leh and Kargil. This move aims to ensure equitable representation and effective governance tailored to the distinct needs of both regions.

Despite initial dialogues facilitated by the high-power committee, progress has been stymied, prompting the KDA to renew its demand for immediate governmental attention. In their statement, the alliance stressed, “These issues are not mere administrative concerns but fundamental rights essential for the well-being of Ladakh’s people.”

The KDA has urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to reconvene the high-power committee promptly, emphasizing their commitment to collaborating with the government towards a comprehensive resolution. They remain steadfast in their advocacy for justice and equitable treatment, urging the Government of India to acknowledge the urgency of their demands and initiate constructive dialogue without delay.

As Ladakh continues to navigate post-reorganization challenges, the Kargil Democratic Alliance stands resolute in its pursuit of inclusive development and protection of Ladakhi interests, awaiting a responsive action from the government to address their legitimate concerns comprehensively.
