Leh, July 05: The Hon’ble Executive Councillor, Minority Affairs, Ghulam Mehdi, chaired a meeting to oversee preparations for the upcoming observance of Muharram 2024 in the conference Hall at the Council Secretariat, Leh on July 4.

Muharram is scheduled to commence from July 7/8 according to apparence of the moon. The meeting brought together key stakeholders and departmental officers to ensure precise arrangements.

EC Ghulam Mehdi instructed officers from different departments to ensure all necessary arrangements are made, following established practices at all levels, including headquarter level and village level where Muharram will be observed. He specifically directed the PDD and PHE departments to ensure uninterrupted and additional supply of electricity and water at all designated locations. The Municipal Committee was tasked with ensuring proper sanitation before and after the Ashura observance.

The significance of medical services during Muharram processions was also highlighted. EC emphasized the strategic placement of medical teams and first aid stations along procession routes to promptly address any medical emergencies. Ensuring the well-being of participants and the availability of immediate medical assistance emerged as top priorities for the organizing committee.

EC Ghulam Mehdi also instructed the Chief Medical Officer to coordinate closely with Alamdar Health Society for blood donation camps and the district police and traffic authorities for the deployment of personnel across various locations to maintain law and order as well as traffic regulations.

Additionally, directives were issued to set up medical camps and maintain law and order to ensure the smooth conduct of this religious event.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC),Chief Medical Officer, Divisional Forest Officer, Deputy Registrar,  Cooperative Department, Assistant Director of FCS&CA, Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Leh, Executive Engineers,R&B, Xen PDD, and Xen PHE Leh, as well as representatives from various religious organizations including Ashraf Ali Barcha President Anjuman Imamia Leh, Mohd Nazir Vice President Anjuman Moin-UL-Islam Leh, and Mrs Nasrin Maryam president Anjuman Imamia Women Wing, Azgar Ali President Seerat Committee, president Alamdar Health Society, Leh.
