Leh, July 03: SheCycling, a pioneering initiative by BYCS India aimed at promoting bicycle literacy among women, conducted a three-day cycling learning camp in Leh. The camp, held at Disko Valley Bike Park with local support, was organized by Prakash P. Gopinath and Zeenath M.A., serving as Senior National Project Coordinators.

SheCycling, known for its impactful campaigns across India, including recent camps in Kerala and Srinagar, ventured into Ladakh to extend its mission. The initiative focuses on enhancing women’s mobility, confidence, and independence through cycle literacy. By equipping participants with cycling skills, the campaign aims to empower them and foster sustainable learning practices. Notably, the camp in Leh aimed to establish a sustainable model by encouraging participants to become local instructors, thereby promoting knowledge transfer within the community.

The event in Leh was supported by local organizations such as Stawa, The Nookad Vibes, and The Zen, reflecting a collaborative effort towards promoting women’s empowerment through education and physical activity.

Zeenath M.A., one of the organizers, expressed optimism about the impact of the camp, stating, “By empowering women through cycling, we are not just promoting physical activity but also creating pathways to independence and self-confidence.”

The SheCycling initiative continues to garner support and expand its reach, underscoring the importance of inclusive programs in promoting gender equality and community development through education and active participation.

This bicycle literacy camp marks a significant step towards empowering women in Ladakh and fostering a culture of sustainable mobility and empowerment.

Participants expressed their enthusiasm for the camp’s impact. “This is an amazing opportunity for us,” said one of the attendees. “Not only have we learned how to ride and maintain bicycles, but we’ve also gained confidence and made new friends who share our interests.”

“We are excited about the future of this campaign,” said Gopinath adding that their experience in Leh has shown us that there is a great demand for such programs, and we look forward to expanding our reach even further.”
