Kargil, July 02: The District Kargil Olympic Association (DKOA) organized a heartfelt program at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre in Kargil to honor Sufiya Sufi, India’s first ultra-marathon runner and a five-time Guinness World Record holder. The event celebrated Sufiya’s outstanding achievements and her inspiring journey in the world of sports.
During the event, Sufiya engaged with the sportspersons at the SAI Centre, offering valuable advice on staying focused during training sessions and avoiding distractions. She emphasized the importance of limiting social media usage for athletes to enhance their performance. Sufiya was accompanied by her husband and manager, Vikas, who also interacted with the athletes, sharing insights and encouragement.
The ceremony was graced by key officials, including Syed Mehraj Uddin Shah, General Secretary of the DKOA; Anayat Ali, General Secretary of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association; Safdar Ali, Treasurer of the DKOA; Ghulam Mustafa, Incharge of the SAI Centre Kargil; and Taekwondo coaches Mohd Ali and Zaheer Abass. The guests were warmly welcomed with traditional kahtaks, and Sufiya was presented with a memento by the DKOA in recognition of her contributions to sports.
Speaking to the media, Anayat Ali praised Sufiya’s remarkable journey from Galwan to the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, describing it as a testament to her determination and spirit. He acknowledged her inspiring achievements and thanked her for honoring the martyrs and promoting unity and patriotism on the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The event highlighted Sufiya Sufi’s contributions to the world of sports and her role in motivating young athletes in Kargil. Her presence and words of wisdom left a lasting impact on the aspiring sportspersons, inspiring them to strive for excellence in their respective fields.
