Leh, July 01: In a significant stride towards enhancing animal welfare in Ladakh, a newly constructed dog shelter in Thiksey is set to be inaugurated on July 7. The inauguration ceremony will be graced by the esteemed presence of Smt. Maneka Gandhi, a prominent advocate for animal rights.

Hon’ble Chairman/CEC Tashi Gyalson of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, convened a pivotal meeting to finalize the preparations for the event. The meeting was attended by Hon’ble Councillor Thiksey, Stanzin Chosphel, along with key officials including the Chief Animal Husbandry Officer of Leh, Executive Engineers from the Public Health Engineering Division, Power Development Department, and Construction, and the Director of the project, Sh. Wangial.

The dog shelter, a much-needed facility in the region, will provide a safe haven for stray and abandoned dogs, offering essential medical care, food, and shelter. The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for July 7th, will be graced by the esteemed presence of Smt. Maneka Gandhi, a renowned animal rights activist and politician.

During the meeting, CEC Tashi Gyalson emphasized the importance of the shelter and instructed officials to extend their full support to ensure the success of the project. The facility is designed to offer comprehensive care, including essential medical services, food, and shelter for the dogs.

This initiative marks a significant advancement in animal welfare in the region, reflecting LAHDC’s commitment to addressing the needs of stray and abandoned animals. The new dog shelter is expected to serve as a model for similar projects, promoting humane treatment and care for animals in Ladakh.
