Leh, June 30: In a significant step towards advancing equestrian sports in Ladakh, the Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Tashi Gyalson, held a productive meeting with distinguished equestrian athlete Shreshtha Sharma and her mother, Divviyaa Sharma.

The meeting, which took place at the LAHDC Leh headquarters, centered on the strategic development of equestrian infrastructure in the region.

Ms. Shreshtha Sharma, a celebrated equestrian athlete, has an impressive resume that includes a silver medal at the Concours de Saut International (CSI) Show Jumping event and a notable world ranking of 18 in the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) Category B Eventing. Her exceptional achievements also encompass three gold medals in national competitions for both show jumping and dressage, highlighting her as one of India’s top equestrian talents.

The discussion between Chairman Gyalson and Ms. Sharma focused on creating a comprehensive roadmap for the future of equestrian facilities in Ladakh. The proposed initiative aims to not only develop state-of-the-art infrastructure but also to provide local youth with opportunities to engage in equestrian sports. The administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh is considering Ms. Sharma for a leading role in this ambitious project, leveraging her expertise and experience to guide its implementation.

During the meeting, Chairman Gyalson expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the potential of equestrian sports to become a significant aspect of Ladakh’s cultural and sporting landscape. “We are excited about the prospects of this project,” said Gyalson. “Ms. Sharma’s remarkable achievements and deep understanding of the sport make her the ideal candidate to help us develop a robust equestrian infrastructure that will benefit the youth of Ladakh and promote the region’s sporting excellence on a national and international level.”

Ms. Sharma, for her part, welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the growth of equestrian sports in her home region. “I am honored to be considered for this role and look forward to working closely with the LAHDC to bring this vision to life,” she stated.

The proposed project will involve detailed planning and collaboration between local authorities, sports organizations, and the equestrian community. The goal is to establish facilities that will support training, competitions, and the overall development of equestrian sports in Ladakh.
