- Ladakh set to host Climate Cup-2024 football tournament in Sept first week
Leh, June 28: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson chaired a review meeting to outline plans for the upcoming “Climate Cup 2024” football tournament scheduled for the first week of September in Leh.
The primary objective of this initiative is to host an environmentally conscious and sustainable event that raises awareness about climate change. The forthcoming “Climate Cup 2024” aims to not only celebrate sporting excellence but also champion environmental consciousness on a global scale.
CEC Tashi Gyalson engaged in detailed discussions with key officials regarding the essential arrangements required for the tournament. Emphasizing the tournament’s pivotal role in promoting environmental stewardship, he highlighted the significance of sending a global message on climate impact. The objective is to ensure that the tournament sets a precedent as a minimal waste football event. The tournament will feature teams from Ladakh alongside national clubs.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman of LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk; Executive Councillors Stanzin Chosphel (Agriculture) and Ghulam Mehdi (Minority Affairs); Secretary of Youth Service and Sports, Vikram Singh Malik; Joint Director Moses Kunzang; Director Tourism, ADC Leh, CPO Leh, Chief Engineer PDD, Deputy Secretary Culture Academy, OSD to Secy, AD Tourism, SE PDD, Xen PDD, PD LREDA, AIO DIPR, and other concerned officials.
Meanwhile, Tashi Gyalson also convened a pre-budget meeting with Vikram Singh Malik(IAS) as the two held a productive discussion on the budget 2024-25 of Tourism, Power, Culture, and Sports Departments.
Various new proposals were deliberated upon. Key topics included plans for constructing multiple solar plants, procuring machinery and equipment, erecting a Buddha statue on the world’s highest motorable road, and developing an equestrian and cricket stadium.
Additionally, it was decided to enhance the grandeur of the Himalayan Film Festival and ensure its promotion.
They also discussed simplification of Hotel/Guest Houses registration and renewal in Nubra, Changthang and Leh area
