Udhampur, June 27: Residents of Udhampur District, particularly in rural areas including the Ramnagar Municipality, are grappling with severe hardships due to ongoing unannounced power cuts. The power outages, which have persisted for over a month, have left the community struggling in the sweltering summer heat.

The disruptions have made life increasingly difficult for residents, who are now on the brink of taking drastic measures. Agitated by what they perceive as a neglected approach by the district administration and the Power Development Department (PDD), locals have issued a stern warning: if the unannounced power cuts are not addressed immediately, they will block the Ramnagar-Udhampur road in protest.

Prominent community leaders, including Sanjeev Jandyal, former councilor from Ward 3, Vinay Jandyal, convenor of the Pingla Mata Akhand Jyot Committee, Jogendra Kumar Bangathia, President of the Trade Board, and Pawan Dev Singh, President of the Progressive Youth Forum, have expressed their frustration and condemned the PDD’s insensitivity towards the plight of the people.

“People are facing immense problems due to continuous power cuts for the past month. The prolonged outages are severely impacting daily life and local businesses,” said Sanjeev Jandyal. “Small children, women, the elderly, and patients are suffering greatly due to the oppressive heat,” he added.

Vinay Jandyal highlighted the adverse impact on local traders. “The businesses of traders are being affected drastically. Day-to-day business activities are disrupted, leading to significant financial losses,” he remarked.

The collective sentiment of the community was echoed by Jogendra Kumar Bangathia and Pawan Dev Singh, who both emphasized the need for immediate action from the PDD. “If these unannounced power cuts are not stopped soon, we will be left with no choice but to block the Ramnagar-Udhampur road outside the PDD office,” warned Bangathia.

The community’s leaders are urging the district administration and the PDD to address the power cut issue promptly to alleviate the suffering of the residents and restore normalcy to their lives. The threat of road blockades highlights the escalating tension and the urgent need for a resolution to the ongoing power crisis in Udhampur District.
