- Police advisory sets cut-off timings for convoys and tourists
Udhampur, June 27: In anticipation of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra, commencing on June 29, the district administration of Udhampur, in collaboration with the District Police, has intensified preparations to ensure the pilgrimage proceeds smoothly. A series of high-level meetings have been held to review and enhance sanitation, logistics, and security arrangements.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Udhampur, Saloni Rai, along with Additional Deputy Commissioner Joginder Singh Jasrotia and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Udhampur – Reasi Range Raees Mohammad Bhat, led the efforts to oversee the comprehensive preparations. The officials evaluated the sanitation and logistical setups, ensuring that pilgrims receive top-notch facilities throughout their journey.
DC Udhampur conducted visits to various lodgment centres and Community Sanitary Complexes (CSCs) along the National Highway, from Jakhani to Kali Mata Temple in Tikri, within the Udhampur district. During these inspections, the DC emphasized the need for regular and thorough cleanliness at these centres, highlighting the importance of providing hygienic and comfortable facilities for the pilgrims.
The review extended to assessing the infrastructure and necessary amenities at the designated lodgment centres and CSCs. DC Rai inquired about the status of drinking water supply, sanitation, electricity, lodging, and bedding capacity, directing the concerned officers to ensure that all arrangements are adequately made and maintained.
However, to ensure the safety and convenience of devotees, the district administration has activated an Emergency Operation and Information Centre. Pilgrims can reach out for assistance and information using the dedicated helpline numbers: 01992-272727 and 01992-272728.
Accommodation facilities have been arranged at multiple locations to accommodate the influx of pilgrims. Additionally, Langar facilities are also available to provide wholesome meals to the pilgrims undertaking this sacred pilgrimage.
Earlier, in a high-level review meeting, DIG Raees Mohammad Bhat scrutinized the security arrangements for the yatra. He directed the police and other security forces to maintain heightened vigilance throughout the pilgrimage. The meeting saw participation from SSP Udhampur Jaginder Singh, Commanding Officer of the 137th Battalion CRPF, Army, ITBP, CISF, and GRP officials.
DIG Bhat underscored the critical importance of ensuring the safety of the pilgrims. He highlighted the need for meticulous planning and the implementation of robust security measures to address any challenges that might arise during the yatra.
Additionally, the Jammu & Kashmir Police have issued a critical advisory regarding cut-off timings for Yatra convoys and tourist vehicles. The advisory is aimed at ensuring the safety and smooth movement of pilgrims and tourists during the pilgrimage season.
According to the advisory, no Yatri or tourist vehicle will be permitted to cross the NAVYUG Tunnel towards Kashmir after 1500 hours. Additionally, the last vehicle to cross Walnut Factory Qazigund towards the NAVYUG Tunnel must do so by 1730 hours.
Yatris and tourists are advised to travel within the Kashmir Valley only between 0700 hours and 1800 hours. Post 1800 hours, all vehicular movement will be halted, and vehicles will be redirected to the nearest Yatri or Security Forces camp for safety reasons.
Authorities emphasize that adherence to these timings is mandatory to avoid any inconvenience and to ensure the safety of all travelers. The police advisory underscores the importance of cooperation from all Yatris and tourists to maintain the sanctity and smooth conduct of the Yatra.
