Kargil, June 28: In a remarkable display of tradition and unity, the Adventure Sports Club (ASC) Trespone extended a warm welcome to Ultra Marathon runner Sufiya Sufi with traditional Khataks as she embarked on the Kargil Vijay Ultra Run. This significant event, organized in collaboration with the Northern Command of the Indian Army, serves as a tribute to the martyrs and marks the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Sufiya’s challenging journey commenced from Galwan and is set to culminate at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass. Today’s leg of the run saw her cover the distance from Budhkharbu Camp to Kargil City Camp, traversing the Namik La Pass at an impressive altitude of 12,100 feet. Demonstrating solidarity and respect, athletes from the Trespone Adventure Sports Club, under the leadership of international athlete and coach Sajjad Hussain, accompanied Sufiya from Tharumsa Pashkum to the helipad in Kargil.

Speaking to the media, Sajjad Hussain highlighted the significance of Sufiya’s presence, stating, “The presence of such a great athlete with numerous world records is a tremendous encouragement for the athletes of Kargil. It will surely inspire them to achieve their goals.” His words underscore the motivational impact of Sufiya’s participation, fostering a spirit of determination among local athletes.

The event saw the presence of key figures such as the President of the All Kargil Tour and Travels Association, Mohd Ali Rangyul, and the Secretary of the Kargil District Olympic Association, Syed Mehraj Ud Din Shah. Both dignitaries joined in welcoming Sufiya with traditional Khataks, symbolizing the community’s appreciation and support.

The support extended to Sufiya by the Trespone Adventure Sports Club and the local community epitomizes the spirit of unity and perseverance. This initiative not only honors the sacrifices made during the Kargil conflict but also serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of those who fought for the nation’s freedom.
