Emphasis on strict monitoring of project work by PWD, RDD contractors to maintain standards
Leh, June 26: Under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Chairman/CEC Tashi Gyalson, the General Council Meeting of the LAHDC, Leh was conducted to discuss and approve the District Capex Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, in the Conference Hall of the DC Office.
At the beginning of the session, DC/CEO LAHDC Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve presented the Capex budget 2024-2025. The House reviewed and discussed the updates and progress of the budget allocations across various departments, including Public Works, Rural Development, PHE, I & FC, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Wildlife, Tourism, Education, Employment, Power, Health, Cooperative, Information, ITI, CAPD, Culture, NFB, Labour Welfare, and Industries, among others.
During the question hour, Councillors actively sought answers to their queries from the respective district officers, while Executive Councillors provided remarks relevant to their portfolios.
Addressing the issues raised, the Executive Councillors assured that these concerns would be prioritized. Noting significant setbacks, CEC Tashi Gyalson instructed the executing agencies of the PWD and RDD to closely monitor the contractors’ project work and take stringent actions against those failing to meet standards.
The District Capex Budget for the year 2024-25 has been approved, with a total allocation of Rs. 344.00 Crores for Leh district. This marks an increase from the previous year’s allocation of Rs. 300.00 Crores. During the fiscal year 2023-24, Leh district successfully utilized Rs. 286.865 Crores, achieving a utilization rate of 96%. A total of 307 works were physically completed during this period.
The Department-wise completion of works and the allocation under the Councillor Constituency Development were discussed and reviewed. This significant budget approval highlights the ongoing commitment to the development and progress of the Leh district.
The House highlighted the notable progress made across various sectors in 2023-24. Key achievements include the commencement of the Ladakh Cultural Centre Project, successful UPSC coaching under the Reway-Otzer Scheme, and major educational infrastructure upgrades and achievements. Technological advancements like 4G BSNL towers, solid waste segregation centres, and healthcare improvements highlight the region’s development. Cultural initiatives and economic growth and the establishment of a Cooperative Super Bazar in Diskit, highlights Ladakh’s commitment to enhancing residents’ quality of life and promoting the region as a cultural and economic hub.
CEC Tashi Gyalson, in his concluding note, expressed his gratitude to all the Councillors for their active participation during the day-long General Council Review Meeting. He also thanked the district officers, led by DC/CEO LAHDC Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, and the heads of all departments for their contributions to the discussion and for reviewing the progress of work. He emphasised the need for further discussions in specific areas and upcoming meetings to address these points.
