Leh, June 27: Advocate Mohd Nasir called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, Shri L Franklin, IAS; Public Law Officer, Smt Stanzin Ladol and OSD to Secretary, Law, Shri Stanzin Chotak, were present in the meeting.

Shri Nasir informed the HLG about his appointment as the Central Government Standing Counsel (CGSC) by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, in 2018, considering his experience in the relevant field. He also informed that earlier Central Government Standing Counsel was absent in the district courts of Ladakh. He further informed about the cases fought by him representing the Union of India.

Shri Nasir informed that his appointment as the Central Government Standing Counsel expired in September 2022. He also informed that the Ministry of Law and Justice, GoI, has not appointed any CGSC for the District Court at Leh after the bifurcation of the erstwhile state of J&K while one CGSC was appointed for Kargil. He further informed about the issues faced by the central government employees, Army/Paramilitary, etc to represent their cases in the court.

Shri Nasir requested the HLG’s intervention in the extension of his service as the Central Government Standing Counsel so that he could represent the Union of India in the District Court of Leh.

The HLG asked Smt Ladol to put up Shri Nasir’s case with Secretary, Law and Justice, UT Ladakh and also asked Shri Nasir to share the order of the appointment of Central Government Standing Counsel for District Court, Kargil so the case could be taken up with the Ministry of Law, GoI. He also stated that a panel of candidates would be prepared and their names would be shared with the Ministry of Law, GoI, for selection for the post of Central Government Standing Counsel.
