Zanskar, June 26: An extensive awareness program under the banner of “Nash Mukt Abhiyaan” was conducted in Zanskar to educate the community about the dangers of drug abuse and addiction, here today. Organized by the administration of Zanskar Sub Division in collaboration with various departments, the event aimed to combat the rising menace of drug abuse among youth and adults alike.
The Abhiyaan witnessed active participation from students, employees, and officials of Zanskar. The day began with a spirited rally starting from the Tehsil office and culminating at Dak Bungalow Zanskar, where participants raised slogans against drug abuse and distributed informative pamphlets.
Talib Hussain NT, Deputy Magistrate Zanskar, flagged off the rally in the presence of key dignitaries including SHO, ZPEO, BDO, ZEO, and school principals. Highlighting the gravity of the issue, Hussain stressed the importance of community efforts in curbing drug addiction.
An awareness program followed at Tourist Dak Bungalow Zanskar, where Mohd Ishaq, Principal GMDC Zanskar, underscored the significance of preventive measures against drug abuse. He emphasized that initial experimentation with drugs can quickly escalate into addiction, adversely affecting health and well-being.
Falzong Angmo and Stanzin Palzom, students of GMDC Zanskar, shared personal insights on the impact of drug abuse among youth, urging peers to stay vigilant. Dr. Syed Anayat from CHC Padum provided expert insights into various types of drugs and their addictive properties, educating attendees on the physiological and psychological effects of substance abuse.
Konchok ZEO urged the audience to educate themselves and others about the perils of drug addiction, stressing the role of each individual as an ambassador for spreading awareness.
In his closing remarks, Talib Hussain NT commended the successful organization of the program and encouraged students to continue their efforts in raising awareness within their communities. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from ZPEO, Zanskar, expressing gratitude to all participants and organizers for their dedicated contributions.
