Kargil, Feb 10: In a historic move Ladakh Administration’s proposal has been given a green light by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as the panel agreed to establish a new examination centre in Kargil district of the union territory for Civil Service (P), NDA and IFS exams.
This decision addressed the longstanding demand from students in Kargil.
“As proposed by Ladakh Administration, UPSC has agreed to open a centre in Kargil for Civil Service (P), NDA, IFS exams, meeting long standing demand from students of Kargil. Also exams for CAPF shall be held at both Leh and Kargil from this year,” Commissioner/ Secretary Ladakh Social & Tribal Welfare, Technical Education and Skill Development, Higher Education, Padma Angmo said in a message.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts number of Examinations including the flagship Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination across the country every year.
UPSC Secretary said that at present, Leh in Ladakh UT is one of the Centres for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination [including Indian Forest Service (Preliminary) Examination], National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination and Combined Defence Services Examination.
This Centre and other nearby Centres are accommodating the candidates from the Kargil District of Ladakh.
In this regard, Secretary said keeping in view the recent developments and requests received from the Administration of the Ladakh UT as also from other organization/ people of the region, the Commission has decided to open a Centre at Kargil for all the aforementioned Examinations and the Central Armed Police Forces (ACs) Examination. Kargil will be operated first time as a Centre w.e.f. the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2024, to be held on 26.05.2024 (Sunday).
In addition to above, given the requests for operating Leh as Centre for the Central Armed Police Forces (ACs) Examination, the Commission has decided to operate Leh Centre for this Examination as well.
