Leh, Feb 11: The three-day Mass Prostration ‘Gochak’ for world peace started at Village Chuchot, here today. Choskul Tsogspa Chuchot Shamma is organizing this Mass Prostration.
Hundreds of Chuchot villagers performed mass prostrations ‘Gochak’ for world peace. It is a process of three days. On the last day, all the devotees go and visit the monasteries. In mass prostration, people lie on the floor with arms outwards in prayer form. Gochak is celebrated during the first fifteen days of the Tibetan lunar calendar, which Buddhists in Ladakh follow.
Lord Buddha is said to have exhibited his miracle powers from the first to fifteen days of the same month. The penance is aimed at seeking world peace and prosperity.
It is stated in the sutra that devotees who undertake even a single meritorious deed with the pure heart during this month will get as much benefit as one hundred thousand times and that is why this month is known as Cho ldza.
