Leh, Jan 31: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson has expressed his happiness on the recent status report of Snow Leopards in India.
As, the Snow Leopard Population Assessment in India Program is the first-ever scientific exercise that reported a population of 718 in India where the maximum number, around 477 Snow Leopards were reported in Ladakh.
“Ladakh is the home to Snow Leopards, the state animal of the Union Territory and it plays an important role in promoting sustainable and eco-friendly winter tourism in Ladakh. The sighting of Snow Leopards reaches its peak during the winter months, particularly in January and February. Knowing that Ladakh has the largest population of Snow Leopards is a positive development for the people of Ladakh,” stated the Chairman, Tashi Gyalson.
The CEC added that the people of Ladakh have maintained a harmonious human-wildlife relationship, promoting co-existence, and informed that the government is taking all necessary measures to protect these endangered species, also ensuring sustainable wildlife tourism in the region.
The CEC further expressed his gratitude to the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change under the abled leadership of Minister, Bhupender Yadav for conducting the first-ever scientific exercise to calculate the population of these mountain queens in the nation.
