Leh, Jan 27: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), participated in the programme held at Raj Niwas to celebrate the Foundation Day of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. All 28 states and 8 union territories of India are celebrating the foundation of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu at their respective Raj Bhawan and Raj Niwas as part of the central government’s push to celebrate India’s cultural diversity and different traditions under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme. Dadra and Nagar Haveli Union Territory was merged with the Union Territory of Daman and Diu to form the new Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu on 26th January, 2020.
Wishing everyone on the occasion of the foundation day of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, the Advisor to HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS, informed that the newly formed UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu has an old and rich history. He also informed about the settlement of Parsis at Diu, who migrated from Persia to India after the Arab conquest of the Persian empire, after refuge granted by the local king, Jadi Rana. He further informed that India has accepted people from different countries to settle in India, which has further enriched India’s vibrant culture and contributed to the nation’s glory. Dr Kotwal, IAS, also shared his experiences from his recent visit to the newly formed UT.
Secretary to HLG, Shri Ravinder Kumar, informed about efforts being made to celebrate the Foundation Day of each state under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme with full zeal with the maximum participation of employees from that state serving in Ladakh. He also highlighted standout features of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
