Kargil, Jan 27: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today inaugurated the 15th CEC Cup Ice Hockey Championship organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports, Kargil at Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium Bemathang, Kargil.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Wani, Chief Education Officer, Kargil Mushtaq Ahmad, District Youth Services Sports Officer (DYSSO) Kargil, Abid Ali, participating teams besides concerned officers were present at the inaugural ceremony.
CEC commended Youth Services and Sports Department for diligent efforts in preparing the Ice Hockey Rink amid prevailing dry weather conditions. Acknowledging their hard work, the department ensured a ready venue for the tournament at the stadium.
Expressing optimism, he highlighted Ladakh’s winter sports potential, extending best wishes to players for success at both national and international levels.
The CEC said for the promotion of the ice hockey in Ladakh, the UT administration has provided ice hockey sets to 10 teams of the district and the Council will provide the kits to all other teams so that they can perform better in different competitions.
Expressing delight, he commended the overwhelming participation of young players in the district and extended appreciation for their dedication and efforts.
He also urged the athletes to take advantage of the opportunities and dedicate themselves in their respective sports.
Earlier, DYSSO Abdi Ali presented welcome speech and said the 36 teams, participating in the 12 day tournament, include four women teams.
Pertinently, Drass Warriors won the inaugural match against DWGA-Red with a margin of 14-0 goals.
