Leh, Dec 26: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)-Leh, SKUAST-K celebrated Kisan Divas at Stakna campus. The programme was attended by farmers and farm women from Nang village.

Welcoming the gatherings, Dr. Kunzang Lamo, SMS (Veg. Science) briefed the farmers about the importance of this day which is celebrated every year as Farmers’ Day to mark the birth centenary of former Prime Minister of India, Late Ch. Charan Singh.

Thanking the producers for their valuable contribution towards ensuring food and nutritional security for all; she appreciated the farming community of this region for working tirelessly in such freezing temperatures to make food available for all. She also briefed the audience about the activities conducted by KVK along with an introduction on Natural Farming and its benefits.

She gave a detailed powerpoint presentation on Natural Farming. She explained the philosophy behind Natural Farming, which was the need for adoption of natural farming. She also briefed the participants about work of Padma Shri Subhash Palekar (Father of Natural farming in India) on Zero budget natural farming along with a method demonstration on preparation of Jeevamrit, Beejamritamd Ganjeevamrit.

Dr. Sabiya Asmat, SMS (Home science) gave hands-on training on “Value addition of Agriculture produce of Ladakh for Enhancing the Income of Local Farmers”. She gave a method demonstration on preparation of potato chips, cakes and bakeries to the participants. She urged the farmers that value addition of locally available products is a good opportunity to increase their income and become an entrepreneur.
