Kargil, Dec 24: The district police has issued a cyber-crime alert to the general public related to the fraudulent whatsapp messages related to traffic challans being circulated by fraudsters.
In an advisory, district police said, “It has come to our attention that scammers are targeting individuals through WhatsApp by sending fake text messages impersonating Ladakh Police. These fraudulent messages claim that you have been issued a traffic challan. Please be aware that these messages are not from the traffic Police department.
In order to confirm your identity, the scammers may send you an .apk file to download the App called “vahan parivahan.” We strongly advise the general public not to respond to such messages received on WhatsApp or any other social media platform. It is crucial to avoid clicking on any direct links provided.
Instead, we urge you to visit the Kargil Traffic Police Office in person for any inquiries or concerns related to traffic challans. Please stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.”
