Leh, Dec 24: Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal called on union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed with him a range of developments matters of the union territory, prominent among them being creation of new administrative districts for Zanskar and Nubra.

Namgyal emphasized the need for earliest recruitment on government gazetted posts to boost youth employment, and also sought an amendment in the LAHDC Act to grant legislative powers to LAHDCs of Leh and Kargil on subjects such as Land, Employment, Environment, Culture and Language etc acknowledging the aspirations of the people of Ladakh for constitutional safeguards.

Expressing gratitude for the allocation of 246 Bhoti language teachers, Namgyal also appealed for the inclusion of Bhoti Language in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution.

Namgyal, on behalf of the people of Ladakh, extended heartfelt appreciation to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their continuous support and urged ongoing assistance for Ladakh, a spokesperson said.

Sources familiar to the development inform that union government is not averse to concede to the long-pending demand of Ladakh for creation of two more districts in the Union Territory, even as the proposal of strengthening of two Autonomous Hill Development Councils of Leh and Kargil has also found favour with the BJP leadership in New Delhi.

“A formal announcement in this regard is likely to be made few weeks ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections,” the sources inform.

Besides BJP, other political parties and social organizations have also been demanding the establishment of new administrative districts for Zanskar and Nubra.

Earlier a group of Bharatiya Janata Party leaders from Ladakh had met Nityanand Rai, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India and demanded for creation of Administrative Districts for Zanskar and Nubra in Ladakh.

A delegation of party leaders led by Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and comprising of Phuntsok Wangdan Shunu, State Vice President of BJP Ladakh; Stanzin Lhakpa, BJP District President of Zanskar; and Tsering Sandup, Councillor from Nubra in LAHDC Leh, had met the Minister at North Block, New Delhi on December 22, a spokesperson informed.

“The delegation emphasised the necessity of establishing Administrative Districts for Zanskar and Nubra in Ladakh,” he said.

MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal reiterated the urgency of creating these districts, building upon discussions held with Union Minister for Home Affairs, Amit Shah, on December 18.

The initiative aims to address challenges in remote regions, aligning with BJP’s commitment to development and strengthening administrative capacities in border areas.

“The proposal aims to bridge geographical gaps between these areas and their respective district headquarters in Leh and Kargil. The establishment of these districts intends to reinforce local administrative structures, ensuring improved governance and enhanced services for residents in these remote zones,” said the spokesperson.

The delegation earnestly urged the Home Ministry for prompt consideration in announcing the formation of these districts and the timely appointment of Deputy Commissioners.
