Saroor
Jammu, Dec 24: The patients suffering from orthopaedic problems and other bones and joints related issues are depending on the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu as the newly commissioned Bone and Joint Hospital sans modern X-ray facility.
Sources said that the Bone and Joint Hospital lacks modern X-ray machines following which the patients have to go to GMC for spine X-ray and to get diagnosed for other ailments.
“As X-ray machine plays a major role in the Orthopaedic department, because in 90 percent of the cases, it is required to diagnose the orthopaedic related problems for its treatment,” they said adding that limited indoor service along with OPD was started in Bone and Joint Hospital two months ago.
“A portal X-ray was installed, but only small X-rays can be taken and patients are forced to go to GMC for spine and other important X-rays,” sources added.
They revealed that as Bone and Joint Hospital is also under pressure due to heavy rush of patients visiting from all over the divisional level and said, “on an average, in the general OPD of orthopaedics, out of 300, 100 patients are prescribed X-ray, which has added to worries.”
“Not only this, even elective surgeries could not start in the hospital,” they said.
A senior faculty of the hospital said, “the process of setting up a new X-ray machine in Bone and Joint Hospital is in progress following which the patients will get all the facilities under one roof. Efforts are being made to start elective surgeries soon as well.”
Bone and Joint hospital resumed its working in November this year to relieve the Government Medical College and Hospital of extra rush of patients.
