Leh, Dec 15: The students of Delhi Public School (DPS), Leh participated in the Indus River cleanliness program organised by 14 Corps of Army.
A group of 15 students from DPS Leh under the able guidance of Ms Jigmet Youdol PGT Sociology joined this noble act and pledged to ensure that they will always be the Worthy Warriors to protect this beautiful Ladakh.
Brigadier SK Dyal, Counsellor of Phyang village and Sarpanch were the special guests for this noble event.
Brigadier Dyal advised the students by saying Indus counts among the most important five rivers of India. And it is the one scared and longest Rivers of India as well. The River originates from sacred Lake Mansarovar in Tibet. It enters Jammu and Kashmir in southeastern Ladakh at an elevation of 4,200 meters. Then it follows through the Ladakh region and Zanskar region on the northern side. The valley of Indus adds to the beauty of Ladakh region and invites tourists in large numbers to experience the scenic beauty.
The water of the Indus River in Ladakh has been used for irrigation for a very long time. Also, the fertile land around the Indus is also extremely useful for agriculture. The Indus River has been a great source of fresh water in Ladakh currently and historically. He also stated that it is the fundamental duty of every Indian citizen to protect and improve the natural environment and to have compassion for living creatures”.
