Kargil, Dec. 13: The elections for the 8th Executive Body of Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT), Kargil saw overwhelming response from the voters as they turned up en-masse to exercise franchise in favour of their candidates at Hussain Park, Kargil here today.
As per officials, designated polling booths were set up for different zones of Kargil district which included Sankoo, Kargil Town, Sodh, Pashkum, Shargol, Chiktan, and Drass. Additionally, a dedicated polling station was set up in Jammu for migrant residents of Kargil to cast their votes.
According to Nasir Hussain Munshi, the Returning Officer, as per the schedule the voting commenced at 9:30 am and continued until 4:00 pm. Fool proof arrangements were put in place to ensure free & fair conduct of the election process wherein people from various blocks of the district participated and exercised their franchise.
As per the RO, out of the 6127 registered voters, 3250 votes were cast for 6 positions i.e. Executive Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, Joint Secretary Finance, Joint Secretary Administration, and Joint Secretary Organizing.
The RO further informed that results of the 8th general election for the executive body will be announced on December 16 after completing the counting process and other formalities followed by the oath ceremony scheduled for December 19, 2023.
