Leh, Dec 10: Before the school would close for a long Winter Break, Delhi Public School, Leh decided to celebrate Losar with full fun and fervor. This auspicious day holds great significance in the life of Ladakhi people as Losar is regarded to be one of the most important festivals for Ladakh and its residents.
The day started with pious lamp-lighting ceremony performed by Principal, Ms Priyam Shukla and Vice-Principal IS Batra. After seeking blessings from the almighty, the series of programs started where the students of Classes IX to XI staged a beautiful drama which portrayed a significant episode from King Jamyang Namgyal’s life.
After that there was some beautiful dance performances showcased by various classes. Before the program could come to an end, an insightful speech was presented by Stanzin Rigdol, a student of class XI.
At the end, the principal, Ms Priyam Shukla appreciated the young scholars for their efforts being put up in the program. She further conveyed best wishes on Losar to the students, parents and teachers from DPS Family and further hoped that such cultural traditions will keep the future generation rooted and aiming to work towards the harmony and welfare of their motherland.
The day came to an end with an invigorating party for teachers where they enjoyed to their fullest and conveyed their best wishes to the people around the globe. Vice Principal, Mr I S Batra, in closing words wished everyone a prosperous and healthy new year and also hoped that the coming year will begin with a lot of promises for a better future of Ladakh and its residents.
Pertinently, this beautiful festival marks the beginning of the New Year for the Tibetan calendar, and this is also the time when people offer prayers and perform a host of rituals. Literally, ‘Losar’ translates to Lo meaning year and Sar meaning new, and Ladakh is one of those places where you will get a complete experience of the same. There is an astonishing story behind the celebration of Losar in Ladakh.
