Kargil, Dec 05: Executive Councillor for Agriculture, LAHDC, Kargil, Aga Syed Mujtaba Mossavi today attended the World Soil Day event organized by the Agriculture Department in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kargil, at Conference Hall, Agriculture, Khumbathang.
Principal Scientist, KVK-1, Chief Agriculture Officer, Kargil, District Agriculture Officer, Kargil, Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer, Subject Matter Specialists, Agricultural Extension Officers, farmers besides other officials were present.
The theme for this year’s program “Soil and Water, a Source of Life,” aimed to enlighten farmers on sustainable agricultural practices.
The EC lauded the organizers for their efforts in creating awareness and encouraged farmers to actively participate in such educational initiatives.
He emphasized the importance of soil stewardship and urged farmers to adopt responsible practices, highlighting the need to preserve water resources for future generations and sustainable development. EC Mujtaba also commended the use of vermicompost and expressed happiness with the enthusiastic participation of the farmers.
At the outset, KVK, Scientists, agriculture experts, and representatives from allied departments threw light on World Soil Day, the Ladakh Green House Initiative, and smart agriculture techniques. During the program, Trichoderma, a beneficial fungus for soil health, was distributed to farmers.
Later, Chief Agriculture Officer Kargil presented vote of thanks and underscored their commitment to advancing agricultural practices in the region. He informed the participants about soil health, water conservation, and innovative farming techniques. He added that the department is empowering the local farmers for a sustainable and prosperous future.
