Training programme “Technological interventions for livelihood security & income enhancement” held at Takmar

Leh, Nov 17: 
ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Regional Research Station Leh (Union Territory of Ladakh) organised a one day awareness program on “Technological interventions for livelihood security and income enhancement” and also distributed Tarpaulin and Agriculture tools under Tribal Sub Plan at Takmar village.
During the programme, Dr. M.S. Kanwar Head, ICAR-CAZRI, RRS Leh Stakna including Er. Changchuk Lamo, Dr. Akash R Chichaghare, Mrs Stanzin Landol (STA) and Sr. Technician Mr. Rigzin Dorje were present and the programme was attended by around 24 farmers.
On the onset of the programme, Er Changchuk Lamo, delivered the welcome address by briefing the participants about the institute and its activities. Then Dr. Kanwar, Head   addressed the farmer participants, He encouraged the farmers to cultivate the vegetables in protected structures like ployhouse, Ladakh greenhouse, Low tunnel and Trenches; also suggested raising vegetable nurseries of good quality planting material of vegetables which can boost the livelihood and farm income.
A very interactive session was held wherein farmers put forward their grievances. The farmers also shared their problems related to the agricultural practices like decline in crop productivity, issues related to the existing local seed etc. It was informed by the farmers that existing production is mainly for sustenance only, so improved varieties of seeds and seedlings need to be introduced for better production. They were keen about the introducing new short-duration vegetable varieties and other crops. The farmers were very happy and assured to work together with the CAZRI Leh for overall agricultural development of the village. It was further noted that the farmers were willing to adopt new practices of agriculture to bring prosperity in a comprehensive manner. Village Panch, Members and Farmers’ are also well satisfied and appraised CAZRI team.
Finally, tarpaulin and agriculture tools were distributed to 24 households of the village under tribal sub plan. At the end, Dr. Kanwar and team CAZRI also visited the farmer Ladakh greenhouse at Takmar.
