GI registration prevented counterfeiting of Basohli paintings, Pashmina: LG

Jammu, Oct 22: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said that GI registration prevented counterfeiting of Basohli paintings and Pashmina to ensure access to the global market.
“J&K govt is committed to provide all necessary assistance as are required for promotion of Basohli paintings and Pashmina,” LG Sinha said addressing the Basohli Utsav in Basohli tehsil of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Both the exclusive products have received GI registration to prevent counterfeiting and to ensure access to the global market,” said Sinha.
He said, “it was a moment of great joy to participate in Basohli Utsav, the cradle of unique cultural and artistic heritage of the country. Basohli’s uniqueness manifests beautifully in world famous paintings, which infused new dimensions to Pahari Art and created its own distinctive style.”
“Basohli is also a centre of other creative traditions including Pashmina wool, which is matchless and unique due to the production process, delicate weaving and embroidery work on finished products and reflects exemplary skill and artistry,” said Sinha.
He further said that the Utsav is an initiative of J&K Govt and IGNCA to popularize the cultural and historical identity of the region, ingenuity of Basohli’s craft and art and to promote workmanship of artists and weavers so that these priceless products are acknowledged and admired globally.
