Leh, Oct 17: A two-day comprehensive training and exposure program on ‘Homestay Management for Homestay Owners’, being organized by Ladakh Environment and Health Organization (LEHO) in collaboration with Food Craft Institute (FCI) Leh under Eco-Tourism Project, concluded here today.
Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk was the chief guest during the concluding function. Skarma Tsering Dehlex, President, All Ladakh Hotel and Guest House Association (ALHGHA); and Delex Namgyal, President, All Ladakh Tour Operators Association (ALTOA) were the special guests. Mohammed Deen (IAS-Retd), President LEHO; and Tundup Dorjey, Founder and Director, Overland Escape were also present on the occasion.
Around 35 homestay owners from three villages Tia, Skampuk and Panamic took part in this training program and learnt hospitality, cooking and tour operation skills from the LEHO team and faculty of Food Craft Institute.
In his address, Mohammed Deen laid emphasis on promoting and encouraging the concept of eco-tourism in Ladakh, which has a fragile ecosystem. He mentioned that LEHO was persistently making efforts in promoting environment friendly projects in Ladakh. “There is a need to impart training to homestay owners to use eco-friendly resources while carrying out their livelihood and the training program was a step in this direction,” he added.
The chief guest lauded the efforts of the LEHO team and stated that LAHDC was also working on several ideas to safeguard the environment. President ALHGHA and President ALTOA also threw light on various aspects of tourism in Ladakh and suggested several measures to promote eco-tourism. Later, certificates were distributed among the participants by the dignitaries.
