Training programme on ‘Pashmina Spinning Using Innovative Charkha’ organised

Leh, Oct 09: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Leh in collaboration with Sher-e Kashmir University of Science and Technology- Kashmir (SKAUST-K) organised a one week training programme under Advanced Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP) on “Pashmina Spinning Using Innovative Charkha” at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Leh, Stakna.

Tashi Namgyal Yakzee Hon’ble Executive Councillor (Animal and Sheep) LAHDC Leh was the chief guest of the function. Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Prof. Haroon Naik Director Planning and Monitoring SKUAST-K Shalimar were the chief patron and co-patron of the session.

The Hon’ble vice chancellors congratulated the scientific team of KVK for starting up the training programme and wish the entire participant a successful completion of the training.

Prof. Haroon informed the participants that the training has been funded by Ministry of MSME as an additional effort for enhancing the pashmina production of Leh by developing entrepreneurs of Pashmina from Ladakh itself.

Dr F.D. Sheikh Professor and Head KVK Leh welcoming the guest gave an overview and importance of the training as an avenue of Livelihood for the unemployed youths of Ladakh, he also briefed about the achievements and ongoing activities of KVK Leh. Dr Mohd Sadiq representative from Sheep husbandry department spoke on various Pashmina development programmes and schemes in Leh. Madam Kunzang Angmo District Horticulture officer lauding the effort of the institute asked rural youths to participate in such events in future also. Dr D. Namgyal Associate Director R&E SKUAST K Leh, addressed the participants on the importance of skill development trainings and highlighted the number of such skill development trainings conducted by institutes of SKUAST K Leh in Leh Ladakh since its inception.

Tashi Namgyal Yakzee Hon’ble Executive councillor (Animal/Sheep) congratulating Dr F.D. Sheikh for initiating such trainings in Leh and asked the participants to take up entrepreneurship after gaining skills from such trainings as the Ministry of MSME GOI is initiating lots of lucrative schemes especially in skill development. He also asked all the concerned departments to work in collaboration for sustaining Pashmina production and Pashmina goats especially after gaining GI tag for the same. The event was attended by 26 graduate trainees and staff of KVK Leh.
