Leh, Oct 05: Leh Police on Thursday claimed to have cracked a blind theft case of Police service weapon and four other house theft cases by arresting six accused and recovering various stolen items including the service weapon from the accused.
While briefing media person SSP Leh P D Nithya said that Police Station Leh on 25-09-2023 at around 00:20 hours received information from ASI Asgar Ali, that during the evening hours he along with his family went to a relative’s home for dinner after locking the house. On returning back home at around 2345 hours (24/09/2023) he found that the lock was broken and the household items were in disarray. Further, he found that the lock of the steel locker was also broken wherein he had kept the government issued pistol and 35 number ammunition, and the pistol and rounds were stolen. Accordingly, FIR No:165/2023 US 457, 380 IPC was registered at Police Station Leh and started investigation, the SSP added.
A special team constituted to investigate the matter was rushed to spot to take first-hand account of the crime scene. Based on human and technical intelligence the team found a suspicious vehicle under registration number JK02AJ-1027 purportedly used by the culprits to commit the crime. On tracing the vehicle it was found that the vehicle has reached Kashmir and the culprits were intending to go to Jammu. Accordingly, Leh Police in coordination with J&K Police deputed a police party to Kashmir and finally succeeded in apprehending the suspected at Quzigund on 26/09/2023 at around 12:05 hours.
Kulgam Police conducted the search of the vehicles and recovered the service pistol and 35 rounds along with 34 other articles suspected to be stolen and apprehended 03 persons namely (1) Jiyarul Sheikh S/O Lalchand Sheikh Brahmanigram, Sargardighi, Murshidabad, Kolkata, West Bengal-742226, (2) Mohd Nizam Mullah s/o Himayat Mullah r/o Bhavana, JJ Colony Juggi Number 530, C- Block Delhi, and (3) Mohd Abid S/O Mohd Ramzan R/O Faridabad.
All the arrested persons along with the stolen property were handed over to Ladakh Police and were brought to Leh.
During further investigation it came to light that Mohd Abid S/O Mohd Ramzan R/O Faridabad resided at Srinagar and boarded the vehicle form Srinagar and was not involved in the crime. On further investigation involvement of two more persons came to light and accordingly Leh Police apprehended two more suspects namely (1) Mohd Sahil S/O Mohd Himmat R/O Brahmanigram, Sargardighi, Murshidabad Kolkata, West Bengal and (2) Pervaiz Shiekh S/O Forooq Sheikh R/O Gitegram, Murshidabad, Kolkata, West Bengal on 29-09-2023.
During interrogation the four accused confessed to have stolen the Service weapon from the Home of ASI Asgar Ali and accordingly section 7/25 of Arms Act was added. They also confessed to have committed multiple thefts at various places including Nubra, Chimday, Solar Colony etc. and recoveries were made based on the confessions.
The SSP further disclosed that the arrested person also confessed to have given some stolen property to Asiya Rasool Sheikh (Alias Kani), D/O Ghulam Rasool Shiekh R/O Hari Singh Street Srinagar. Accordingly, a Police Party was dispatched to Srinagar and on 02-10-2023 and apprehended the said person besides recovered stolen property from her possession.
The accused also confessed that they have kept some stolen property with Ram Kali W/O Partap R/O A-42 Sanjay Camp near Chandragupt Marg-6, Chanakya Puri, New Delhi, at present Khalsar Nubra. Accordingly, recoveries were made from her possession and she was arrested on 04-10-2023 by Police Station Nubra.
During the investigation till date recoveries have been made in cases (1) FIR No: 45/2023 of Police Station Leh (2) U/S 457, 380 IPC FIR No: 165/2023 of Police Station Leh U/S 457, 380 IPC and 7/25 Arms Act, (3) FIR No: 166/2023 of Police Station Leh U/S 457, 380 IPC, (4) FIR No: 167/2023 of Police Station Leh U/S 457, 380 IPC and (5) FIR No: 25/2023 of Police Station Nubra U/S 457, 380, 411, 109, 34 IPC.
The stolen property recovered so far majorly consists of Jewellery of gold, silver and other precious stones, silver utensils and some electronic items etc.
During investigation three vehicles including two Maruti Vans and one TATA-207 pickup truck, suspected to have been used in the commission of crimes, have been seized.
Further investigation regarding their involvement in other theft cases is going on.
