Jammu, Oct 03: Known for its professional working, the Jammu and Kashmir Police organisational structure after October 31 is expected to witness revamping and the force is likely to come directly under the control of the Lieutenant Governor.

Credible sources in the administration said that the Union Home Ministry very soon will take a review of the Jammu and Kashmir Police including its resources, working and the police personnel engaged at various posts and designations.

“There will be a review of numbers and resources and it is learnt that after October 31, the control of Jammu and Kashmir Police will be in the hands of the Lieutenant Governor,” sources added.

Sources however, said that by directly falling under the ambit of the Union Home Ministry, the facilities and salaries of 80,000 Jammu and Kashmir cops may be hiked, adding, “moreover, fresh recruitments, deployments in the police stations and police posts across the Jammu and Kashmir is also expected.”

Presently, sources said that the Jammu and Kashmir Police is facing crunch of around 40 to 50 percent of manpower besides the investigating officers, adding, “as of now, the force was under the control of the local administration but after October 31, it will be directly controlled by the Centre and a major facelift is on cards to further augment the force.”

Sources said that there is a shortage of personnel in 227 police stations of Jammu and Kashmir and in the last three years, about 10,000 men have been recruited across the Union Territory but despite this, there is still a shortage of policemen in the police stations.

“The police also have a shortage of investigating officers but this crisis will soon be met with special recruitment and deployment to bridge the administrative gap,” official sources added.

They said that this month, there is a possibility that new police stations and police posts will be raised in Jammu and Kashmir.

“New police posts and police stations may be constructed in South Kashmir and in Jammu and Srinagar while the number can also be increased in Udhampur, Kathua, Samba, Rajori and Poonch districts,” they added.
