Leh, Oct 02:
The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) participated in the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti at New Raj Niwas. The HLG and the First Lady, Smt Neelam Mishra, paid obeisance along with floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
At the outset, the HLG announced a 20% hike in the salaries of the sanitation workers of Municipal Committee Leh. Highlighting the significance of October 2 in Indian history, the HLG stated that we observe such important days because only a few selected leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri put the country before themselves and made numerous sacrifices for the country’s independence from the British colonial rule. He also stated that if we forget the contributions of Gandhiji and Shastri ji in India’s independence from the British colonial rule then our children will fail to recognise the cost at which we gained freedom from the British rule. The HLG stated this would result in the loss of our rich values, traditions and culture. He also stated that our first priority should be the nation and then ourselves.

Stating that Gandhiji always gave importance to cleanliness along with hygiene and sanitation, the HLG emphasised that we should always keep our surroundings clean for a healthy society. The HLG appreciated the visionary leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi and hoped that India would soon become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
The HLG felicitated sanitation workers of Municipal Committee Leh and also released pamphlets on Municipal Guidelines related to waste segregation and recycling, etc.
Advisor to HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Principal Secretary, Shri Sanjiv Khirwar, IAS; Commissioner Secretary, Smt Padma Angmo, IIS; Commissioner Secretary, Shri Mehboob Ali Khan, IRS; Secretary to HLG, Shri Ravinder Kumar, IAS; Heads of various Departments; government and defence officials; sanitation workers of MC Leh and NCC cadets were present during the event.
