Leh, Sept 24: As the National Conference and Congress alliance has shattered much before ahead of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil scheduled to be held on October 10, first time the Aam Aadmi Party (APP) has claimed the stake on four seats while the both mainstream parties (NC and Congress) are contesting face to face on 17 seats.
The BJP however is contesting on 17 seats as well and supporting few independents.
According to the sources, after the withdrawal of the nominations, 85 candidates are in the fray for the elections of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil.
The names of the candidates were released by the Deputy District Election Officer Kargil.
“The Congress has fielded 21 candidates out of the total 26 seats on which elections are to be held,” they said.
Sources added that BJP and Congress have fielded candidates on 17 seats each and for the first time, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is trying its luck in the elections.
“Four AAP candidates and 26 independents are in fray for the elections,” they said.
Sources revealed that the announced pre-poll alliance between Congress and National Conference no longer exists and both the parties have fielded candidates against each other on the 17 seats.
“Before the elections, NC and Congress had announced to jointly contest the elections while on the other hand, BJP, while contesting elections on 17 seats, has announced to support independent candidates on some seats,” they added.
A senior BJP leader claimed that the party will win all 17 seats and with the support of some independents, it will form the government for the first time in Kargil Development Council.
The fresh election of October 10 was announced after the Supreme Court’s decision to allot plough symbol to the National Conference.
Sources said that maximum six candidates are in the fray in Lankarchhe seat, while five candidates each are in the fray in Chiktan, Stakchhe Khangral, Baru and Gund Mangalpur.
“Two, three and four candidates are in the fray on other seats and there will be a direct fight on seven seats. At some seats it will be a direct contest between NC-Congress, Congress-BJP, Congress-Independents and a triangular fight on 11 seats between Congress, BJP, NC and independents,” they added.
There is also a quadrangular contest on three seats and a multi-cornered contest on five seats, official sources said.
They said that the election expenditure limit has been set for each candidate contesting the election as one candidate can spend only Rs 1.5 lakh.
September 22 was fixed for an audit of election expenditure by the appointed officials and the candidates have been asked to submit details of expenditure incurred so far on this day.
