Leh, Sept 12: Deputy Commissioner of Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, convened a meeting in the DC Conference Hall today to discuss the upcoming ‘Swatchhata Pakhwada’ initiative.

‘Swatchhata Pakhwada,’ a week-long cleanliness drive, is scheduled to be observed from September 11 to September 17 with a multitude of pre-event and main event activities planned.

Pre-event activities include ‘Swatchhta League’ between Leh and Kargil, coupled with a thorough cleanliness drive in the vicinity of Leh Palace and Tsemo. Additionally, a cycling event and cleanliness drive in Trench Ward No. 1 have been organised.

A painting competition and mass awareness campaign concerning cleanliness, engaging the participation of Educational Institutions like EJM and Polytechnic, are also set to take place.

 Plogging activities along the Indus River will mark the celebration of the 9th anniversary of the Swatch Bharat Mission.

Furthermore, cooperation has been sought from SIDCO and the Transport Department for maintaining cleanliness in buses, along with a thematic painting competition.

A plantation drive and a program aimed at supporting sanitary workers have been added to the agenda, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to enhancing cleanliness and hygiene in the district.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner, Leh Santosh Sukhadeve emphasized the importance of civic awareness and the involvement of all stakeholders in preserving the pristine beauty of Ladakh. It was also discussed that the engagement of wholesalers would be sought to ensure a holistic waste management approach.

The meeting concluded with all participants taking a Swatchhta pledge, reaffirming their commitment to making Leh a cleaner and greener place to live.
