Leh:- The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier BD Mishra (Retd), led a cleanliness drive at the sand dunes of Hunder in the Nubra sub-division. The HLG himself did the cleaning of the area physically with brooms with the locals which sent a very good message regarding the need for regular cleaning of the area.

Interacting with the people on the occasion, the HLG said that the economy of the people of Ladakh is dependent on tourism and highlighted the importance of keeping tourist areas near and clean to sustain tourist activities. The HLG emphasised on organising cleanliness drives on a daily basis. The HLG assured to provide assistance for conducting cleanliness drives. The HLG directed the SDM and BDO Nubra to take charge of the cleanliness drive. The HLG also interacted with the camel owners and asked them to maintain and keep the the area clean to encourage the tourists to visit the area. The HLG suggested the camel owners to ensure the availability of the camels in various locations in Hunder. The HLG directed the concerned authorities to ensure the availability of first aid kit and medical facilities for the camels. The HLG also directed the local administration to provide space for pasture and construction of sheds for the camels of the area. The HLG also directed to ensure fencing of the camel riding area.

Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Ghulam Mehdi; Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Sh. Santosh Sukhadeve, (IAS), district and sub divisional officers, officials of BRO and army besides large number of people participated in the cleanliness drive.
